10 reasons why Ireland should be on your ‘must-see’ list
An often underrated country on the tourism front, but if you are looking for a place away from the crowds, a place to cool off during your off-work season, Ireland is a must-see for your travel wishlist. There are so many reasons to visit and explore Ireland on your next vacation.
1. Affordable
Of course, cost is a major factor when choosing any vacation destination. Your visit to the Emerald Isle doesn’t have to be expensive. With the improving train and bus services, public transportation can get you around easily. There are many direct, roundtrip flight options from the United States.
2. Green and gorgeous
Ireland is gorgeous. There’s hardly any other way to describe it! The lush green fields of the mountainside, the rugged rocks, the moving sea, the stunning woods (remember The Game of Thrones?), the glacial mountain passes; the list of Ireland’s natural beauty is endless. Visit the historic Cliffs of Moher, head out to the gorgeous Ring of Kerry, or enjoy nature in a National Park.
3. Amazing food
If you are a foodie, with a strong yearning for wholesome, hearty delicacies, Ireland should be on your bucket list. The Irish breakfast and potato soup are quite popular Irish delicacies. But there’s much more to Irish meals than that. A glass of Irish wine is always a great bonus.
TIP: Check out Dick Mack’s historic pub or The Fish Box for some seafood in Dingle, Co Kerry!
4. Full of history
History, history, and then some more history. Whichever kind of history catches your fancy – medieval or modern – Ireland has something for everyone. From the Kilmainham Gaol (Ireland’s historic prison) to the Skellig Michael monastery, the historic sites (with their accompanying stories and lessons) are endless.
5. A night in a castle
Like much of Europe, there is no shortage of castles in Ireland. When planning your vacation, be sure to plan a visit to one of Ireland’s many famous castles. The medieval Rock of Cashel, magnificent Blarney Castle, the Victorian Bunratty Castle – the list is endless. Find one that allows reservations (Adare Manor or Dromoland Castle, for example) and spend the night there. It would be a night that takes you back in time.
6. Away from the crowds
For some reason, Ireland is not at the top of every vacationer’s list of preferred destinations. Enjoy a peaceful time away from the crowds that is both enlightening and relaxing.
7. The pubs
The Irish pub is so different from any you have ever visited. Regardless of whether you are a regular visitor to the pubs or you are more of a conservative, it is sure to keep you glued. The pubs hold a lot for you – great food, live bands, and an effervescent air of festivity that fills you with a calming warmth.
8. The people
Regardless of how sociable (or not) you are, the Irish welcome you and treat you as a family. Fair to say, there is no stranger in Ireland and you are sure to enjoy your visit.
9. The adventures
Imagine hiking the trails in the woods that look like they belong on The Game of Thrones. The view is stunning, as well as the hike. Hike through the woods in Glenveagh National Park or Killarney National Park. A range of adventures awaits you in Ireland. For water lovers, you can enjoy kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding in places like Skellig Islands and Aran Islands.
10. The Guinness storehouse
The iconic storehouse of Guinness Breweries is a must-see attraction on your visit to Ireland. Located in the heart of St James’s Gate Brewery, Dublin, you take a walk through history, enjoying the stories of Ireland’s historic beer. Starting at the bottom of the world’s largest pint glass, your journey ends when you enjoy a pint of complimentary Guinness.
