Ireland is a country you feel before you understand it. The light changes four times before lunch. A road narrows, a hedge opens, and there is the Atlantic four hundred feet below you. Dublin is Georgian squares and a food scene that has quietly gotten very good. Kerry is the Ireland people picture, mountains falling into water, and it is better than the picture. Connemara and Mayo are wilder and emptier, which is where I send travelers who want space.
